allow me to introduce myself,
hi i’m sophia. i’m the creator and owner of a strange attitude. i began learning how to sew at age 11 in 2009. one of the biggest reasons i wanted to learn was because i adored lady gaga’s closet. she is still a big inspiration of mine, as well as anime and punk aesthetics.
i have always been creative and loved expressing myself through fashion. sewing let me recreate pieces i couldn’t afford (with my own spin of course) or create something entirely new and never before seen! as i got more into fashion, i learned about the environmental and social impacts of the indsutry. i wanted to find ways to avoid contributing to these impacts, and it led me to upcycling.
this is a career pivot for me! i started as a fine artist with a focus on acrylic painting and mixed media. i went to school for motion design and interactive arts, with the hope of creating concert visuals and installations. i found this wasn’t the right path for me. while digital art is something i enjoy creating, the professional field felt restricting. i began reflecting on what i loved doing and how i could share that with the world.
i had the idea for this business in 2023, and began officially pursuing it july of 2024. i love upcycling because it allows me to create in an unconventional, interdisciplinary, and environmentally friendly way. my art practice has always spanned many mediums, so i find a lot of joy in solving the puzzle that is working with found materials.
I hope you enjoy A Strange Attitude, thank you for your time reading this, and if you have any questions please feel free to email me at sophia@strange-attitude.com!!
